The session explores the evolution of Shared Service Centers (SSCs) in the context of global enterprises, using the example of Springer Nature’s transformative journey and outlining both the main challenges as well as the benefits of process automation and AI and emphasizing the importance of a gradual evolution that leads to a balance between cost and quality in SSC operations. Finally, the presentation advocates for SSCs to transition into capability centers or Centers of Excellence (CoE). It explains how CoEs, starting from low-end to high-end activities, can support group teams, identify needs and support standardizing and optimizing processes necessary for a successful automation, and thus ultimately add value to the business.
